Field / TV-Location Items (Not in Rack)
· ×9 SDI/HDMI Converters (BMD-CONVBDC) — mounted at each
TV location; SDI coax pulled from rack to each display
· ×1 Sonnet Thunderbolt Expander (ECHO-EXP-SE1-T3) — desk shelf near Mac operator position
· LBP-4A Lace Bars — installed on rear vertical rails inside rack for cable management
Rack Slot Notes & Rationale
U1
SmartView Duo2 — Dual 8" SDI Monitors
BMD-HDL-SMTVDUO2 · Blackmagic Design · 1U
Placed at the top for optimal sightlines from the operator position. These are the primary confidence monitors for the ATEM operator — keeping them at eye level reduces head movement during live production.
6G-SDI Low Heat
U2
ATEM 1 M/E Constellation HD — Production Switcher
BMD-SWATEMSCN2/1ME1/HD · Blackmagic Design · 1U
Primary switching brain. Positioned immediately below monitors so SDI feeds from the switcher output run the shortest possible path to the monitors above. Accepts 10× 3G-SDI inputs from PTZ cameras and playback sources.
3G-SDI ×10 In Moderate Heat PSU Internal
U3
Web Presenter HD — Live Streaming Encoder
BMD-BDLKWEBPTRPRO · Blackmagic Design · 1U
Receives a program out feed from the ATEM (directly above) and encodes to H.264 for Resi or YouTube Live. Tight cable run to U2 ATEM program output. USB-C / Ethernet connects to network switch at U5.
12G-SDI In Ethernet Out
U4
Teranex Mini Universal Rack Shelf
BMD-CONVNTRM/YA/RSU · Blackmagic Design · 1U
Houses up to 3 Teranex Mini–size units. Use this shelf for any future Teranex Mini add-ons (e.g., up/down/cross converters, audio embedders). The BMD-CONVBDC SDI/HDMI converters are NOT rack-mounted — they live at each TV location in the field.
Future Teranex Minis Patch Point
U5
TP-Link 24-Port Gigabit Switch
TL-SG1024 · TP-Link · 1U
Network backbone for Web Presenter HD streaming output, NDI/IP feeds, and any future AV-over-IP expansion. Positioned in the center of the rack for balanced cable runs to devices above and below. Label all ports at install.
24-Port Gigabit Separate PSU
U6
Brush Grommet Cable Management Panel
Middle Atlantic BR1 · 1U
Mid-rack cable management breakout point. Allows clean separation between active gear above (U1–U5) and power zone below (U10). All rear cable runs from the ATEM, switch, and converters exit through this panel cleanly.
Cable Mgmt
U7–9
Blank Panels — Future Expansion
3U Reserved
Leave as blanks with 1U vented panels to maintain airflow. Suggested future use: 1U audio interface or DSP, 1U PTZ camera controller, 1U additional SDI router as streaming needs grow.
U10
Furman P-1800 PFR — Power Conditioner
P-1800 PFR · Furman · 1U
Always positioned at the bottom of the rack. Keeps the heaviest unit low for stability. Power all other rack units from this conditioner — do not daisy-chain power strips. The voltmeter on the front panel gives real-time voltage monitoring.

Installation Recommendations

  • Lace Bars (LBP-4A): Install on rear vertical rails. Bundle and dress all SDI and network cables before installing active gear.
  • SDI labeling: Label every BNC at both ends (source + destination) during rack build — saves significant time during commissioning.
  • Converter placement: All 9× BMD-CONVBDC SDI/HDMI converters mount at the TV locations — not in the rack. Velcro or bracket each converter behind the display. SDI coax pulls from the rack to each TV position; converter outputs HDMI directly into the Samsung.
  • Thermal: Rack has passive airflow. Ensure 6" minimum clearance at rear. ATEM at U2 is the highest heat device — free air above U1 monitor is sufficient.
  • Power: All rack units should be powered from the Furman at U10. Run the three dedicated circuits from the EC to: (1) rack power strip, (2) Samsung TV zone, (3) spare/data.
  • Network: Bring a single CAT6 home-run from the switch at U5 to the facility's main network closet. Tag the port at both ends.
  • Desk position: The Sonnet Thunderbolt expander (ECHO-EXP-SE1-T3) should sit on the operator desk shelf adjacent to the Mac/iMac — not in the rack.
Non-Rack-Mounted Equipment — Wall / Display Locations
Samsung UN75MU8000FXZA ×3
UN75MU8000FXZA — 75" 4K UHD
Wall-mount via Peerless-AV ST660P. Each TV has a BMD-CONVBDC converter mounted at the display location — SDI coax pulls from the rack/ATEM, converter outputs HDMI directly into the Samsung. No HDMI long-run required.
Peerless-AV ST660P ×3
Universal Tilt Mount 39"–80"
Install per manufacturer spec. Confirm wall stud / blocking locations with EC before mounting. Wall reinforcement included in scope.
Sonnet ECHO-EXP-SE1-T3 ×1
Thunderbolt PCIe Expander
Desk-mount near Mac operator position. Provides PCIe slot expansion for capture card or AJA I/O interface. Do NOT place inside rack — needs direct Thunderbolt cable to host Mac.
Belden 1694A — RG6 Coax
1694A 0101000 (1,000 ft) + 0081000 (200 ft)
1,000 ft for display runs from rack to TV wall positions. 200 ft for SDI pulls to PTZ camera positions. Pull all coax before rack arrives on site.
